NATURE’S LITTLE DELICACIES OF IMMUNITY We, humanity, are suffering from low immunity and are largely dependent on factory made vitamins and minerals to improve our immunity. But not much is happening…..and while we spend much, nature has around us all the ingredients we need in the kingdom of weeds. It is for us, humanity, to just pick them up for regular use and enjoy the benefits. But nobody is interested in preserving and conserving the natural world. So, therefore, I present these twenty-one plants, having realized, through practical uses, its beneficial qualities. On my many trips to the remote village areas and tribal lands of India, I have shared with the rural folks the taste and the benefit of the flavour of health, provided by these weeds. The rustic population of the Indian subcontinent, many of them vegetarian by birth, get their necessary nutrients and mineral contents by consuming these weeds, not only the twenty-one described here, but many more, which I am now in the process of identifing, along with whatever little quantities of vegetable they could effort to keep their body immunity intact. The urban population know only of a few varieties of greens, usually available in the market, most of them grown by the help of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides. The use of these do not give much benefit. While the weeds from their backyards, kitchen gardens and potted plants are thrown away thinking these were useless creations. Instead of using a lot of one or two types of greens, one can collect all around minimum of 15 varieties of weeds daily, not much in quantity, just a few leaves form each, and prepare them along with the daily vegetables, to keep one’s immunity in balance, to remain young forever. Yes these possibilities are there. While cutting vegetables, the green ‘eyes’ of the potatoes, the weak grams of pulses and spice seeds, can be planted in a pot or in the kitchen garden, not for their tubers, roots, beans and seeds but for their tender leaves, which are ideal greens. Twenty one greens for daily use Page - 123 Incase of lack of space a few pots, full of soil, could be placed around for the weeds to grow on their own. The described twenty one plants are consumed by the village and tribal population of India on a daily basis. After sharing the prepared greens with the tribals and villagers I am using the above mentioned plants in my own vegetable preparations. Have realized the full benefits, I am hereby presenting these plants & weeds with full confidence, for the healthy existence of Humanity. I hereby declare that the above mentioned facts are the result of my long study, research and practical experiments on my own body. A translated version (English to Oriya) of the research reports are being published regularly in “Sachitra Vijaya’ (RNI No. 2001/ 6853) a monthly family feature magazine, as per the reasearch information requirements.
